CALLING ALL ADVOCACY CHAMPIONS!

The Patient Empowerment Project (PEP) is a transformative advocacy cohort designed to equip individuals with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to become powerful advocates for healthcare change.

A collaboration between OACAC, Missouri Foundation for Health, and Beacon Reproductive Health Network, PEP offers individuals the unique opportunity to give voice and action to important issues.

Participants will receive:

  • Comprehensive advocacy training
  • Personalized one-on-one support
  • The opportunity to tour the State Capitol and meet with elected officials, directly influencing policy decisions

The first cohort began in June 2025. A new cohort begins in June 2026.

“Being a kid from North Saint Louis and only seeing the building in passing and on TV, I never thought that I would be in the building with senators reaching their hand out first to greet me. I have a newfound respect for the people who fight through traffic to fight through parking to fight for what’s right on a daily basis. I went from feeling like I have no chance and my vote would never count to feeling like I could run for a seat and let others see how their voice does count. Overall, amazing, eye-opening day. Thank you for the opportunity to make a change.

Tell Me More About PEP!

As part of the program, individuals will lead a grassroots initiative, fostering community involvement and raising awareness about critical healthcare needs in Southwest Missouri.

In addition to training and individualized support, participants will receive:

  • Monthly stipends for gas and groceries, removing barriers for transportation and health during cohort participation;
  • Supportive services funds for essential expenses such as rent, utilities, childcare, and more – you decide;
  • Up to $750 toward a computer, tablet, or reliable internet service for your home, ensuring you have digital access;
  • Funding to plan and host an Advocacy Event of your choice!

With access to educational resources and financial support, the Patient Empowerment Project ensures that every participant is empowered to make a lasting impact, advocating for policies that improve care and outcomes. This initiative is a vital step toward creating more informed, engaged, and influential communities.
