WHAT IS LIHEAP ASSISTANCE?

Are you looking for help with your energy bills?

The mission of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is to assist low income households who have an energy crisis.

Keep them warm.

Missouri’s LIHEAP Program

This is a federally funded project administered by OACAC. Start dates are as follows:

  • October 1: Residents with disabilities or age 60 or older. 
  • November 1: All other households. 

EA

Energy Assistance 

The Winter Heating and Energy Assistance Program (EA) provides a one-time payment for assistance with winter heating costs for low-income households.

  • Payments are based on household size and income
  • The program runs the entire year from October through May
  • Applicants must first apply for EA before being considered for the Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP)

ECIP

Energy Crisis Intervention Program 

The Energy Crisis Intervention Program provides utility assistance and relief for eligible households to alleviate an energy-related crisis.

  • The Winter program runs from November through May
  • The Summer Cooling Program runs from June through September

A disconnect notice is required for ECIP.

TO APPLY BY PAPER: Click here to download and print the FY ’24 application. The completed application may be mailed, dropped off in person, or faxed to OACAC. Contact information is included with the application.

**New as of 9/29/23: You can call our LIHEAP IVR system at (417) 864-3460 to receive an up-to-date report on the status of your application.  

How To Apply for LIHWAP

The Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) may be able to help you with a one-time payment for your water and/or wastewater (sewer) bill. This program is available through March 2024.
