May is Community Action Month

Community Action comes out of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty and from the advocacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 created the Community Action Network of national and locally-focused organizations that connect millions of children and families to greater opportunity. OACAC is an acronym for Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation. We are a Community Action Agency (CAA), established in 1965 to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty and help people achieve self-sufficiency. We serve 10 counties in SW MO, offering resources, opportunities, assistance, and hope to people of all ages. We are one of 19 Community Action Agencies in Missouri and among 1,000+ nationwide. The Community Action Promise below is shared and lived by each of the CAA’s locally and across the nation.
