Foster Grandparent Program Announcement

As of today, March 16, 2020, the Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation (OACAC) has temporarily closed its Foster Grandparent Program. Foster Grandparents are senior citizens age 55 or older who offer one-on-one support to at-risk children and youth in their communities by volunteering at Public Schools, OACAC’s Head Start Program, Boys and Girls Clubs, Day Care and Learning Centers, the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch and Developmental Centers. Grandparents are paid an hourly stipend.

OACAC has 34 job sites/stations in 14 counties in Southwest Missouri. A total of 58 Foster Grandparent volunteers are currently on the program. The OACAC program received approval from its funding source, the Corporation for National and Community Service on March 13, 2020 to pay volunteers their regular non-taxable hourly stipend while they are not at work. This approval is for the next two weeks and is renewable every two weeks up to a total of ten weeks for now.
