13 Sep ONE Initiative
We are pleased to be part of Burrell Behavioral Health’s ONE Initiative.
Springfield News-Leader journalist, Jackie Rehwald, writes:
According to recent statistics, one person dies by suicide about every 40 seconds. That’s about 800,000 people every year globally. For every adult who dies by suicide, there’s an estimated 20 or more who will attempt suicide.
In Missouri and Arkansas, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death. For young people ages 15 to 29, it’s the second leading cause of death.
With those stats in mind and September being Suicide Awareness Month, Burrell Behavioral Health is launching a new community-wide campaign to prevent suicide called ONE. ONE stands for Our Networks Engaged.
Businesses and individuals who pledge to be a part of the ONE initiative will receive free training on how to recognize mental health warning signs, talk about suicide with loved ones or colleagues and connect them with resources to help.
